New Attitude

There’s nothing more thrilling than the release of original music curated by a new and talented hip-hop artist.

It has been easy to become extremely bored and uninterested in the industry with “artists” such as Soulja Boy, and the extremely aggitating comeback of auto-tune. But over the past couple of years it has become  clear that hip-hop is certainly not dead.

Time has proved to be quite prosperous for hip-hop, cranking out new talent and giving underground artists a platform to share their ideas and become vulnerable to the masses.

Whenever I have the pleasure of stumbling upon something I’ve never heard before it immediately conjures up a feeling of anxiety. I am unsure if the music will prove to be a waste of time or grow into an immediate infatuation for the music.

If someones music is in fact palatable, then I am immediately gratetful. I am grateful they took a risk to post their music online in hopes that one day enough people would listen to their voice and appreciate it. It is always a good sign when these creatives are able to make something so superior it brings a smile to my face, because of the message behind the lyrics. And if I am entertained enough, a nod of my head to the melody may just be the epitome of my delight .

One artist I have been listening to a lot lately is Cali based artist Young Hawaii Slim. And yes, he smokes weed (but who doesn’t). He shows an immense amount of potential which is always refreshing.

It is emerging artists like Young Hawaii Slim that keeps the underground circuit on its toes.
